UPDATE - The Luton School Run for Level Trust

A huge well done to the Bushmead staff that got involved in the Luton School Run recently. Of the 39 schools that took part, we had the most participants (53) and finished in second place overall with 186 miles covered (just 3 miles behind the top school).

However, far more importantly the Bushmead community significantly helped to raise money for the Level Trust, an organisation supporting families in the local area through this very difficult period. Thank you to everyone that donated and supported the event...

**Physical Activity Class Competition Update**

Thank you to everyone that has been logging their physical activity. By the end of the first day on Monday, we'd logged 189 hours and 40 minutes across 84 sessions. At the start of the day on Wednesday, and as writing, that has already risen substantially to 410 hours and 10 mins across 158 sessions including children, families and staff. Excellent work everyone!

If you haven't logged your activity yet, follow these simple steps to get started:

1. Go to https: //www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo

2. Click on FAMILIES.

3. Click on LOG ACTIVITY.

4. It will say 'Find Your School' - enter the postcode LU2 7EU (make sure you leave a space between LU2 and 7EU - not LU27EU)

5. 'Bushmead Primary School' will come up - click on it to select it.

6. 'Select Team' will appear underneath (The default team is Bushmead Staff) - find your child's class from the dropdown menu.

7. Complete the activity details sections and click submit. You will arrive at the class dashboard to see how the class is getting on.

PE Home Learning Activity 4 (Target Game).

Well done to all those that logged activity in the 'Physical Activity Class Competition' that was started yesterday (see previous post below for more info). An update will follow later today but please remember to log today's physical activity at: https://www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo.

Today's activity...

What? It's important to get exercise and be active, but we also need to practice our core skills! This is a fun activity to practice your throwing and accuracy skills. Instead of beanbags you may need to get creative with equipment such as using rolled-up socks, or a basket as a target to score into. Adapt the game to suit your environment - it can be played in very small spaces. Only attempt the second task if you have the room (or can think of creative ways to adapt it for your home).

**Physical Activity Class Competition**

Hopefully you have been encouraging those at home to stay active using your own ideas, our PE Home Learning activities or national initiatives like Joe Wicks' daily PE workouts (see here).

To keep you motivated and to track your physical activity, we are using the GET SET for Tokyo 2020 website. Here you can record the minutes you have been active (as an individual or family) and we are tracking which classes are most active. We will share regular updates and announce the most active classes (called 'teams' on the website).

To record your active minutes, and to help contribute to class totals, please go to www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo and select families:

From here you have a choice of logging activities, seeing the school dashboard and as highlighted, access their range of activities and resources for physical activity ideas at home (if required):

To log your child's/family's active minutes click on to 'log activity'. Here you will need to put in the school postcode 'LU2 7EU' and select our school before choosing your child's team (class) from the drop-down menu - we've included a staff one to make sure they are doing physical activity too!

You can then complete the 'activity log' which includes the activity type, duration, how hard it was and who took part from your family. Finally, click submit to store the active minutes!

Remember to share your photos/videos on social media using #activebushmead. We look forward to seeing the class scores so get logging your activity! The children that are in school today have already started logging the activity they've completed today for their class smileyyes

Physical Education Home Learning Activity

It is really important to keep exercising during this period so we will be posting some fun home activities to help our pupils remain active. The activities might need adapting for your personal circumstances but, with a bit of creativity, we are hoping those pupils that are not in school will still take part in daily exercise at home. We recently had a non-uniform day for Sport Relief so we will start these activities with the official dance...

School Sport Update - February 2020

As the first half of the Spring term draws to a close there no more events until after the break. However, we've had some excellent sporting results recently...

Year 6 Football Team - 3rd in the county - bronze medals!

Congratulations to our Year 6 Football Team that finished in third place at the ESFA County Football Tournament. A very high standard was set and we came very close to being crowned county champions but it wasn't to be and eventually we finished third in Bedfordshire. Congratulations to the team for their consistently high performances and thanks to Mr Hendrickson for his hard work.

Year 6 Badminton - girls runners up!

We took both a boys and girls team to Inspire to compete in the Luton Schools' Badminton competition. After a long morning, both teams qualified for their respective knockout stages in the afternoon. The boys faced Parklea in the quarter finals who were just too strong, eventually beating us 3-1 in games. The girls fared much better, winning both their quarter-finals and semi-finals matches comfortably to set up a final against Parklea's girls. The match was tight all the way through, finishing at 2-2 in games. The result had to be decided, so it went down to points scored and sadly Parklea just edged us with a total points score in the match of 31-28. So close, but well done to both teams for their performances on the day.

We've also had gymnastics events for children from years 4-6 and a year 2 net and wall festival in recent weeks, providing lots of opportunities for Bushmead pupils to take part in competitive sport, get some exercise and represent the school.

Here are some events we have coming up after half-term, before the Easter break:

Badminton

Football

Cross Country

Sportability Festival

Benchball

Netball

Hockey

Volleyball

Futsal

Swimming Gala

Tennis

Well done to all involved and let's see what the second half of the spring term will bring...

Mr Nathan

Head of PE

School Sport Update - January 2020

We're only into the second week of term and already there's been lots going on in the PE department, with plenty more events coming up soon...

Year 4 Dodgeball

We took a team of Year 4 pupils to Inspire for the Year 4 dodgeball festival. Whilst this event does not have a winner, it is designed to give pupils a fun and exciting experience of competitive sport against other schools, in preparation for the events in Year 6, whilst getting them physically active. Across the course of the festival we played ten matches, winning seven and losing three. Well done to the team!

Year 6 Boys EFL Football County Cup Finals

Following our local football tournament win before Christmas, we took our football team to the county finals in an attempt to be crowned 'EFL Champions Of Bedfordshire'. Of the 7 matches played we won 6 but narrowly lost 2-1 to the overall winners Lakeview from Bedford, finishing up in 2nd place and taking home silver medals. Being second in the county is a really fantastic achievement, so huge congratulations to the wonderful players for their permofromances and to the staff involved! We have another county final coming up, so hopefully we can go one further in that event - GOOD LUCK!

Sportshall Athletics

We took 40 children to Inspire for the Year 3&4 sportshall athletics competition and the Year 5&6 sportshall athletics finals (which we qualified for previously). It was a very busy day including lots of shuttle bus runs to and from Inspire. After all of the running, throwing and jumping events had been completed by all the schools, the final scores were read out. Our Year 3&4 team finished in 4th place overall and the Year 5&6 team finished in 8th overall, both very respectable positions given the number of teams that enter and the high standard of competition. Congratulations to all involved!

Girls County Table Tennis - SILVER MEDALS smiley

Congratulations to our Year 6 girls' table tennis team who recently travelled to Oakley, Bedfordshire, for the county finals with Mr Nathan and Mr Hilliard. The girls played brilliantly against schools across the county, winning all of their games but drawing against local rivals St Matthew's. At the end of the league, with Bushmead and St Matthew's level, it went down to points scored in order to decide the county champions. Unfortunately, St Matt's scored more than us and took first place leaving us in a highly respectable second place in Bedfordshire. A huge congratulations to all of the team: Georgina, Nife, Tegan and Zaynab.

Girls Football League

The girls football team headed to Ashcroft High School last week for the first round of league fixtures against River Bank and Waulud. A strong performance against River Bank saw us win 9-0, followed by a tough and hard fought 3-0 win against Waulud. A 100% start to the league, well done girls! Team: Zaynab, Tegan, Megan, Araya, Anyah and Olivia.

Year 6 Boys' Futsal yes

Following our recent victory at the boys' football competition, we were confident of another strong performance at the indoor Futsal tournament, held at Luton Sixth Form College. Sure enough, our team proved very strong form the outset, confidently winning our group and proceeding through the knock-out stages. A tight semi-final against Downside went to extra-time with Bushmead eventually winning 3-2, before a confident 3-1 victory in the final against Someries. CHAMPIONS! Huge congratulations to the boys and thanks to Mr Hendrickson. Team: Lewis, Ethan, Andrew, Zac, Charlie and Luke.

Wembley Stadium 'Day Of Inspiration'

We recently took some Year 4 and 5 pupils to experience a day at Wembley stadium. After arriving safely at Wembley, the day began with a journalism workshop in the Wembley Stadium Learning Zone with a sports journalist. He led the children through a series of fun activities to help develop their reporting and communication skills, inspiring them with case studies based on different sports and the history of Wembley stadium. After lunch, the children got to experience a stadium tour which included visiting the players' changing rooms, the interview and press areas and, of course, sitting on the seats looking out over the pitch from the journalists' enclosure. It was a brilliant day and our children were very well behaved and engaged throughout.

Huge thanks to all of the wonderful Wembley staff that made the day so memorable for our pupils and to Miss Picton and Mr Hilliard for their help on the day.

The English Football League Cup - WINNERS! smiley

Last week we took two teams of Year 5&6 pupils, Bushmead Whites and Bushmead Reds, to take part in the highly competitive English Football League cup at Playfootball.net, Stopsley High School. There were 40 teams competing to be crowned champions of Luton at the event, so we knew we'd have to perform very well against tough opposition to win the competition overall.

Bushmead Whites had a tough group and, after their group matches were completed, they had unfortunately failed to secure enough points to progress through to the knock-out stages. Well done to all involved!

Bushmead Reds fared much better, confidently winning all of the group games and finishing top of their group to set up a quarter-final match against Downside. Again, a solid performance resulted in a 3-1 win, meaning they faced Whitefield in a tense semi-final. After going a goal down, a spirited fightback saw Bushmead overturn the result, eventually winning 3-2 and securing a place in the final against Ferrars. This was going to be a tough match and so it proved, the teams matching each other all the way and at the final whistle the game finished 5-5. It was time for a dreaded penalty shootout and with players from both sides showing signs of nerves, the pressure was on! Again, the schools couldn't be separated and with both teams scoring a couple and missing a couple, the penalties went into sudden death. Bushmead went first and scored, meaning Ferrars had to score to stay in the game. Unfortunately for them, their player stepped up but struck the ball wide of the goal - BUSHMEAD WERE CHAMPIONS!

A huge congratulations to all the children and staff involved, a fabulous achievement!

The Indoor Cricket League

Is Underway!

The Year 5&6 indoor cricket league team have been training hard in preparation for their first round of league fixtures, which took place at Inspire this week. Our first match was against St Matthew's and some excellent bowling and fielding gave us a comfortable win. Our second match was against a strong Hillborough team and we knew we'd have to put in a strong performance to secure a second win. Bushmead batted first, finishing on a solid 255 runs for 4 wickets. Hillborough needed 256 to win and, again, a strong bowling and fielding performance restricted them to 236/5 at the end of the innings.

A brilliant morning's cricket by our team, taking two wins from our first two fixtures! Let's hope the excellent form continues...

Table Tennis Runners-Up

& County Finals Qualification!

Well done to our Year 6 girls' table tennis team that performed brilliantly at the recent Luton schools' table tennis competition. The event took place at the Luton Table Tennis Club and was played in a league format, with the top two teams at the end of the day qualifying for the County Finals in Bedford. The girls won all of their league games but lost 3-1 to a strong St Matthew's team in the final match, finishing in second place with silver medals and county finals qualification. We also took two boys teams to the boys' event but, despite trying their hardest, unfortunately neither team scored enough points to secure medals or to qualify further. Well done to all that took part and good luck to the girls at the County Finals in Bedford!

The Cricket World Cup Comes

To Bushmead!

The cricket world cup trophy was recently on tour in the local area and we were lucky enough to secure a quick visit to our school. Pupils from Years 3-6 were selected by their teachers to come and see the trophy, which was on display in the KS2 hall. See this short video for more info:

League Fixtures - Football & Netball

Our football and netball leagues are now underway and fixtures against other schools across the town are being organised by the PE team.

The netball team played their first league match this week and, although they tried hard and battled until the end, their opponents Denbigh were just too strong. Still, there were lots of positives to take from the match and the team know what they need to focus on in training. Well done girls, on to the next match!

The football team have played two matches already, one being a friendly against St Matthews and the other a league fixture against Denbigh. In both matches we played very well, scoring lots of goals and securing comfortable wins in each match. Well done to all of the pupils that took part, it looks like we have a good season ahead!

Year 3 Swimming

Swimming lessons are now well underway and the pupils are really enjoying their sessions in the water. Here's a little reminder of some key information for swimming this year:

- it is advisable to remove any jewellery on swimming days as ear-rings are not allowed to be worn in the pool and some pupils have difficulty removing items themselves.
- swimming goggles are not permitted unless your child requires them for a medical reason (Doctors note needed).
- under supervision of the swimming teacher, school staff will occasionally enter the pool to support any pupils that are finding swimming particularly challenging and assist in building their confidence in the water.
- please don't send in any poolside footwear such as flip-flops/crocs as they are not permitted.
- if your child has long hair, please ensure they have a swimming hat.
- swimming shorts are welcome but they must be above the knee and tight fitting. Girls must wear one piece costumes only.

If you have any queries about anything mentioned above, please feel free to contact me at school.

Kind regards,

Mr Nathan

Year 5&6 Tennis COUNTY CHAMPIONS

- 4th Year in a row!

Following our recent success of winning the Year 5&6 Luton Schools' tennis tournament at Venue 360, Mr Nathan and Mr Hilliard took our team to Bedford to compete at the County Finals competition on Friday. It was set to be a long, hot day, playing against the best teams from across Bedfordshire. Bushmead have been Year 5&6 County Tennis champions for the previous three years in a row, so the current team were under pressure to maintain our domination across the county.

The competition was played as a league system in which every school played each other, and the winner being the team with the most points and top of the league at the end of the day. During the morning session we played against Castle Newnham from Bedford, narrowly edging them out 3.5 v 2.5 in games, and Sharnbrook (also from Bedford) with another tight 3.5 v 2.5 win. At lunch we knew it was in our hands as we were the only team to have won two matches but, with two more tough matches ahead there was much tennis to be played in the afternoon session. Firstly we played Linslade from the Leighton Buzzard area and put in a very strong performance winning 5 v 1 in games. This meant that in our final match against our Luton rivals Hillborough we needed only a draw or better to win the county tournament. Frustratingly we couldn't lift our performance for a strong final win but at the end of the match the score was 3 v3 and we had done enough... COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!!

A huge congratulations to the team for a wonderful achievement, keeping up our county tennis domination for another year.

TEAM: Georgina, Nife, Jai and Callum.

Year 4 Cricket

County Champions! laughyes

After qualifying for the Bedfordshire County Cricket Finals from the Luton Schools' tournament, our Year 4 cricket team headed over to Dunstable Town Cricket Cub in Totternhoe to compete at the County Finals against all the best teams from Bedfordshire.

Following the welcome from the organisers, we spent the morning playing our group games against Leedon Lower, Renhold and Great Denham. Although the matches were fairly close, we won them all to finish top of the group. After lunch we discovered that our top of the league position put us in the county final against Carlton Primary School from Bedford, who had also won all of their games. It was all set for a tense county final to see who would be crowned champions of Bedfordshire.

From the first bowl of the match to the last, the Bushmead team brilliantly implemented all the tactics they'd been taught and put in a fantastic performance to beat Carlton 155 (for 1) v 141 (6). A really wonderful achievement in a fiercely competitive competition across the county and congratulations to our wonderful pupils for their efforts.

TENNIS DOMINATION!

Gold and Silver medals for our two teams

and double County Finals qualification! laughyes

Traditionally we've been a very strong tennis school, achieving and maintaining double county champion status (at both Year 3+4 and Year 5+6 age groups) for the last three years in a row and we're keeping that success alive this year.

Last Friday we took two teams of Year 4 pupils to the Luton schools' tennis competition at Venue 360. This event ran as a league, meaning the two Bushmead teams would have to face each other at some point, and the top two teams at the end of the day would qualify for the county finals in Bedford later this month.

Some brilliant tennis was played and our two teams performed very well. Bushmead Reds won all of their matches comfortably, only drawing their final match of the day against... Bushmead Whites! Bushmead Reds went on to finish top of the group and win the gold medals. Congratulations to the team: Anderson, Luke, Mischa and Maahi.

Bushmead Whites also performed well and didn't lose a match all day but, unlike the Bushmead Reds, they drew three matches so it was a tight finish in the end, narrowly beating St Matthew's to second spot by just a single point overall and claiming the silver medals. Congratulations to the team: Ethan, Sayan, Olivia and Maya.

We look forward to both teams representing Luton at the county finals in Bedford.

GO BUSHMEAD!!

Year 4 Cricket - Silver Medals!

**COUNTY FINALISTS**yessmiley

On Friday (17th May), we took our Year 4 cricket team to William Austin Junior School to take part in the fiercely competitive cricket competition. We had a very strong morning, winning 4 and losing just 1 of our group matches, meaning we had won our group and qualified to play St Joseph's in the quarter finals after lunch. A comfortable 183-149 run win put us in the semi-finals against Downside. This was a much closer match, and in the last over we took two very important wickets to narrowly win by only four runs, setting up a final against rivals Hillborough. Importantly, by reaching the final both teams qualified to represent Luton at the Bedfordshire County Finals in June. Sadly, our performance in the final didn't match our previous efforts and Hiillborough beat us 187-157, so congratulations to them! Perhaps we'll get our revenge at the county final...

A huge congratulations to the team on a brilliant day of cricket, finishing runners-up in Luton is a fabulous achievement.

Luton Indoor Cricket League

 frownnoCHAMPIONS! nofrown

The Luton Indoor Cricket league is a fiercely competitive event that takes place over the winter months. The team began training after school on a Tuesday in September and have been working hard to improve their batting, bowling and fielding skill all year. The team comfortably won all of their group fixtures, which took place either side of the New Year, and finished on top of their group. This meant we had qualified for the Luton Indoor Cricket League finals at Inspire on Wednesday 13th March. The standard at this stage is excellent and the pressure on the players is very high. This is how the morning played out...

Quarter Final:

William Austin 251/4 v 307/1 Bushmead

Semi-Final:

Downside 279/4 v 282/2 Bushmead

Final:

Beechwood 275/5 v 279/1 Bushmead - CHAMPIONS

I am hugely proud of the team and this really is a wonderful achievement - I believe the first time that Bushmead has won the Indoor Cricket League. Well done for all their hard work!

Sports Event Updates:

Netball, Sportability, Cross Country, Football, Hockey and Futsal

We had a very busy week last week, with numerous children from different year groups representing the school at sporting events, festivals and fixtures...

Netball

We played our first Division 1 netball match of the year against a very strong St Matthew's team, eventually losing 9-2. A heavy defeat, but there were many positives we took from the match and look forward to our next fixture. Well done to the girls that played on the day!

Team: Lore, Mckayla, Lillian, Kira, Evie, Leah and Zana.

Sportability

We took a selection of pupils from years 4-6 to this fun, multi-sports event for children of all abilities. The children took part in a range of sports including boccia., kurling, table cricket, seated volleyball, athletics and more.

Cross Country Relays - WINNERS!

We took a mixed team of pupils to the cross country relay event at Stockwood Park. The children take part in a 4x1 race, each member of the team having to complete a lap of the track before passing on the baton to the next runner. After a great race, we were confident we'd done enough to win and when the results were announced, it was confirmed - WINNERS!

A fantastic result, congratulations to Harvey, Mackenzie, Amber and Leah.

Football

On Thursday evening we had a tough Division 1 football match against St Margaret's. Despite creating many chances, neither team could find the back of the net and at the final whistle the result was a disappointing 0-0. Well done to the players: Max, Brandon, Mackenzie, Ben, Freddie, Louis, Taffy, Jack, Josh and Edward.

Hockey and Futsal

On Friday afternoon we took a Year 4 and Year 6 team to the hockey and futsal festival at Luton Sixth Form College. This was a non-competitive event, designed for pupils to gain competitive experience and both teams did very well. The hockey team won 3 matches, drew 1 and lost 1. The futsal team won 4 matches and lost 1. A brilliant effort from all our pupils, well done...

Hockey team: Sophie, Evie, Maria, Freddie, Aarav, Mikail and Mevinton.

Futsal team: Ayaan, Fraser, Anas, Ethan, Purbasha, Emily and Maahi

Boccia

- Runners Up! smiley

On Friday we took nine children to Luton Sixth Form college for the Luton Schools Boccia Competition. Boccia is a fun and inclusive game similar to bowls, in which two teams try and aim to get their 6 balls closer to the target ball (known as the jack) than their opponent's. The more balls you have closer to the jack than your opponent, the more points you score.

We had three teams and each team took part in a different group against other schools from across the town, all of which qualified from their groups to the knockout stages. Bushmead Reds had been knocked out by the quarter-finals and Bushmead Blues lost 2-1 to Wenlock Reds in their quarter-finals match. Bushmead Whites were still going strong though and made it all the way to the final against Wenlock Yellows. After a very tense final, Wenlock finished up as eventual winners, narrowly beating us 4-3, but the silver medals eased the disappointment. For detailed results, see attached document below.

Well done to everyone involved, a great result!

Badminton Competition

Runners Up - SILVER MEDALS!

On Wednesday we took our Year 6 boys and girls badminton teams to the annual competition at Inspire. The event started off with a mini-league against other schools during the morning session to see who would progress to the knockout stages in the afternoon. The boys confidently won all their group games to win their league and progress to the quarter finals. The girls played very well but finished their group in 3rd position, narrowly missing out on qualification to the quarterfinals (the top two teams from each league went through).

The boys played a very tough match against Hillborough in the QF, winning 37-29, before confidently beating Sacred Heart in the semi-final 41-30. In the final, the team played a nail-biting match against Sundon Park. It was deadlocked all the way through and incredibly the game went down to the final point, winner takes all! Sadly for us it was Sundon Park that won the point, the final score being a heartbreaking 36-35.

A huge achievement by all our pupils involved, well done!

Luton Schools Gymnastics Competition

SILVER MEDALS!

This week we took our Year 6 Gymnastics Team to Salto gym club in Luton to compete against other schools. Children had to learn and perform a set routine, before performing a vault using a springboard. Both of the performances took place in front of a watching audience and a judging panel - it was very intimidating!

Our team performed their skills superbly, despite limited practice time, and we were extremely proud when the results were announced to discover that we'd finished in second place overall. A fantastic achievement for all the pupils, well done...

Some fabulous bowling and fielding from our children prevented Whitefield from getting close to our score, finishing their innings on 197/7. Sportshall Athletics Finals

Years 3&4 and 5&6

Back in November/December 2018, both our Year 3&4 and 5&6 Sportshall Athletics teams went to Inspire to compete at the annual Sportshall Athletics event. After strong performances, both teams went on to qualify for the FInals competition against the best teams in Luton in 2019.

The finals competition took place yesterday (Wednesday 9th Jan), again at Inspire. In the morning our Year 3&4 team competed first and, against some very tough athletes, finished in 6th place across the town. That's a fantastic achievement and a huge well done to all our children. In the afternoon session, the Year 5&6 team took part and, after some fantastic individual performances, the team finished in 4th place - just outside the medal positions! The standard was very high so coming fourth in the town is a magnificent achievement. Well done!

Sportshall Athletics - Years 3&4

On Wednesday morning we took 18 year 3&4 pupils to Inspire for the annual Sportshall Athletics competition to see if they could match the year 5&6 team that qualified for the finals.

It's a long competition for the children as they have to wait for their events but, when it came to it, our pupils performed excellently, outdoing the Year 5&6 team by finishing one place higher - 2nd overall! That means we have a busy day coming up in the new year as both teams will be attending their respective finals event on the same day. More info to follow...

County Table Tennis Finals

Year 5&6 Girls

Following their brilliant performance at the local table tennis tournament, our Year 5&6 girls qualified to represent Luton, along with St Matthew's, at the County Finals Tournament at Lincroft Academy just north of Bedford.

The girls played four matches with the following results:

Bushmead 5 v 3 Castle Newnham

Bushmead 8 v 0 Lincroft

Bushmead 4 v 4 Hollywell (Bushmead won 69-67 on points scored)

Bushmead 2 v 6 St Matthew's

We performed very strongly against schools from around the county but, as in the local tournament, St Matthew's were just too strong so we finished up in 2nd place overall and silver medallists! Finishing second in the county is a fabulous achievement and something to be very proud of - well done girls! nosmiley

A big thank you must also go to St Matthew's who kindly offered to transport us to and from the event as part of 'Team Luton'.

Year 6 Basketball Festival

We recently took a group of 6 children to the Luton schools' basketball festival at Luton 6th Form College. The children play competitive games against other schools but their is no overall winner - the event is designed for children to get the opportunity to represent their school and gain experience of competitive sport whilst developing their basketball skills and having fun.

The children were split into two different teams for the event and both teams had the same results by the end of the event - won 2, drew 1, lost 1. Well done to all of the children that attended...

Year 5&6 Boys Football Tournament

This week we took two teams to compete at the annual boys 5-a-side football tournament at playfootball.net, Stopsley. Both teams performed strongly in the group stages, to make it through to the knockout stages. The standard was very high and, despite playing hard and trying their best, both teams got knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Over 40 teams took part in the competition so to make it through to the last stages of the tournament is a great achievement. Well done to everyone involved...

Sportshall Athletics - Years 5&6

On Wednesday afternoon we took 18 year 5&6 pupils out to Inspire for the annual Sportshall Athletics competition. It's a long afternoon but our children performed brilliantly, finishing in 3rd place overall and so qualifying for the Sportshall Athletics Finals in January.

Congratulations to everyone that took part! no

Football Festival v St Matthew's

We recently hosted a football festival at Bushmead to provide more children with the opportunity to represent the school in a competitive football match (beyond our normal school football team). We invited St Matthew's Primary school to the festival in which two football matches were played and it was a great afternoon. Our Team 1 won their match convincingly, scoring into double figures whilst Team 2 narrowly lost a fantastic encounter 3-2. Well done to all the children that took part and thanks to St Matthew's for taking part!

Bushmead Primary School's Platinum Games Mark Application Video - 2017/18

After achieving the Gold Games Mark accreditation for the very high standards of Physical Education and School Sport that we provide at Bushmead, and maintaining it for 5 years, we were eligible to apply for the new and coveted Platinum level accreditation which we successfully achieved. This is our winning video application, we hope you like it...

Platinum Games Award

PE

At Bushmead our vision is that all children receive the opportunity to become physically literate through P.E., whilst fostering a lifelong passion for physical activity through high quality teaching and an engaging, fun and inclusive curriculum. This vision encompasses an extensive extra-curricular programme of activities and a wealth of competitive sporting events, fixtures and experiences.

P.E. Kit for all children should consist of:

Plain white t-shirt or polo shirt

Plain black shorts

A dark coloured tracksuit for cold weather

Trainers (we strongly discourage parents to purchase plimsolls as they offer little support and can hinder performance/development)

Water bottle

These items should be in school for every P.E. lesson
