Reading books and records
Your child will bring two reading books home from school on a Monday each week. These books need to be returned on a Thursday to enable us to quarantine them for use the following week.
We expect children to read at home with an adult a minimum of three times a week. Reading is an essential tool, which will support many areas of your child’s learning.
Please ensure that your child brings their reading wallet to school every day inside their reading bag.
During the week, your child will have a set reading day, this will be noted in their reading record. An adult will hear your child read and check their phonics card.
The teacher will not record in the reading record in school, to prevent contamination, so we would appreciate you recording the titles of the books and your comments or a simple initial to indicate you have shared the book at home.
A stamp in their record will show you that they have read in school. We will be keeping our own separate notes regarding your child's reading progress.
We aim to hear all children read individually over the next few weeks so please be patient as we get to know your children and adjust levels of books accordingly. Many children will begin their reading journey on textless books in order to support and extend their vocabulary and imagination.
Reading books will only be shared with children in our 'bubble' and will be placed into a 'quarantine box' for 72 hours before the next child can take the book home.
Soon the children will have access to Bug Club to support their reading too. Bug Club is an online reading library. Please keep checking our website page and your child's reading records for updates.
