Our School Council represents the views of all our pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.

It consists of four children from each year group from Year 1 up to Year 6 who have been nominated and voted for by their peers. The vote takes place annually in September. School Councillors hold their office for one year. If they wish to run for office again they will need to be re-elected.

Mrs Ratcliffe supports the children at their meetings. They bring ideas on a variety of aspects of school life and discuss possible changes or improvements that could take place. The council meet every other Friday. A Year 6 member has recently started taking the minutes so that a record of each meeting can be kept. 

Children in Need 

The School Council decided that it would a be good idea to organise a colouring competition across the school in order to raise money for Children in Need. The competition was a real success! We ended up raising a grand total of £969.20 - Well done Bushmead! 

A letter from the Prime Minister 

Seren, one of our councillors kindly wrote to Boris Johnson and his partner Carrie Symonds congrautlating them on the birth of their new baby. A few days later, Seren received a letter from the Prime Minster thanking her for the letter. She wanted to share it with you all. 

Children In Need 

This week we have been busy raising money for Children In Need. As a School Council we enjoyed organising a non-uniform day and a colouring competition for each year group, in order to raise as much money as possible. We also arranged a prize for each individual winner of the colouring competition which you can see in the pictures below. 

We raised a total of £831.80. Well done Bushmead! 

Voting

Bushmead students have been very busy explaining to their classes why they think they should be a School Councillor. 

The results will be revealed on Friday during assembly time. 

Luton Peace Walk 

A few members of our School Council attended the annual Luton Peace Walk. We spent time as a Council discussing what is meant by peace and ways in which we can create peace and harmony within our school.

Miss Kiff's art students did a fabulous job of producing so lovely artwork which was displayed. We feel very grateful for this experience and look forward to attending next year.

Food Tasting

All of the School Council members were invited to taste the new school menu. The cooks gave us a lot of different foods to try. We then filled out a form by ticking our favourite dishes. We all enjoyed ourselves and the cooks were extremely grateful for our help. We worked well together as a team, as well as making what we believe to be the best decision for our school. We left feeling very proud of ourselves, as well as having very full tummies. 

A visit to the Mayor of Luton

As a Student Council we were lucky enough to visit the Mayor of Luton at the Town Hall. We had a meeting in the chambers where we asked the Mayor several questions about her role. After the meeting we were able to look at lots of memorabilia. We ended our fabulous trip by enjoying some drinks and biscuits as well as being given a badge and pen to take home. As a Student Council we feel extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to visit the Mayor. We learnt lots and are looking forward to putting these ideas in practice.

A trip to Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill kindly invited the School Council to watch their Christmas production. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were very impressed by the fabulous costumes. After the production we enjoyed spending time visiting the children’s classrooms. We hope to return sometime soon.
