English
Autumn 1.
English lessons this half term are themed around fairy tales involving wolves. These may include 'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig' written by Eugene Trivizas and 'Little Red Riding Hood' written by Jonathan Langley. These books will encourage and inspire the children to use their imagination and develop their sentence structure and writing skills. Over the course of the term, the children will have an opportunity to develop their understanding of direct speech, commas in lists and use of correct punctuation through writing stories focusing on familiar traditional tales and characters.
The teaching of reading will focus on retrieval and inference skills as well as widening their current vocabulary base. Children will begin to use accelerated reader to select books which are appropriate for their current reading level. Their reading level will be assessed half termly and levels changed in accordance.
There will be an Accelerated Reader parent workshop on Tuesday 1st October.
Grammar and spelling patterns and skills will be taught specifically in SPaG lessons whilst being integrated into English lessons. Whilst we are not sending home weekly spellings, the year 3/4 statutory list is available below and also attached to the front of your child's learning log. Please support your child in learning these in a way that suits their individual needs.

Weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7 - Addition and Subtraction
